Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the ground stations at Gazipur's Telipara and the alternate at Rangamati's Bethbunia through video conferencing with the respective deputy commissioners from Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city around 11:45am.The ground stations have been named after the PM’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed. South Asia's first test run of fifth generation (5G) mobile internet took place in Dhaka yesterday when download speeds of up to 4.17 gigabits per second were experienced. Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy witnessed the speed on a mobile device at “Bangladesh 5G Summit 2018” at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka and expressed satisfaction. Joy said Bangladesh would be one of the first countries to deploy 5G technology. “This is my promise for the next election,” he said, pointing out that the government had kept its last pre-election pledge of making 4G available. The demonstration was organised by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology in cooperation with telecom vendor Huawei and mobile operator Robi.

Though the test results of Bangladesh's first satellite, Bangabandhu-1 was expected to be in hand by Saturday evening, the SpaceX authorities are yet to provide its results, said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Dr Shahjahan Mahmood today.Talking to UNB, he said, "We did not receive the results of the test yet as SpaceX was still analyzing the data. India's cyber security chief on Friday cited "hardware failure" as the reason for several government websites facing downtime, rejecting reports of cyber attacks.
"There has been no cyber attack on any government website or any sabotage. It is a hardware failure, affecting around 10 government websites. Drupal is a content management software used by the affected websites. The websites will be restored soon," national cyber security coordinator Gulshan Rai told TOI.

Bangladesh’s unique mobile internet penetration will reach 41 percent by 2025, with 4G accounting for half of total connections, the GSMA has said in one of its reports about Bangladesh mobile industry.

A shooting at YouTube’s California headquarters left at least three people wounded and a female suspect dead of an apparent suicide, police said Tuesday. The San Bruno police chief, Ed Barberini, said during a news conference that police had responded to 911 calls from the Silicon Valley tech campus and discovered a woman, whom they believed to be the shooter, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Country’s maiden satellite Bangabandhu-1 will start commercial operations from August this year subject to its launch into the orbital slot at 119.1 Degrees East tentatively on April 24, a top official said. “We are expecting to begin the commercial operations from August and hopeful of launching the satellite at the end of this month after a series of tests,” Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood told the daily sun on Wednesday. A man, who received money from a UK-Bangladeshi firm run by a supporter of the Islamic State, has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. The 33-year-old was given the jail term by a US court on March 30, reports the Baltimore Sun. He was convicted for accepting thousands of dollars from Islamic State terrorists overseas to carry out an attack in the US. According to the report, Mohamed Elshinawy had pleaded guilty in August, 2017 to receiving money from the terror group in the summer of 2015. The case is the only known example of the Syrian group sending money to an operative in the US.
